kev took me to steirereck on friday as an early birthday treat, and it really was a treat! i am so happy we got to try out the restaurant before we leave vienna. it was a fantastic evening.

we then hosted a mini party on saturday night as a combined birthday and farewell bash. it was a lot of fun, but due to us being rather too noisy i had my first encounter with the austrian police. oohps! (maybe a good thing we are leaving?!).

sunday was a mega olympic watching fest! tennis, gymnastics, running. i love it all.

my weekend

we had some friends visiting and so we did a little sightseeing in vienna, ate lunch at li's cooking at the naschmarkt (mine was the very tasty spicy thai style noodles), and then the afternoon turned into a rather long (and fun) beer session at naschmarkt deli. the weekend was gone in a flash. can somebody bring it back, please?

(oh, and sorry for the absence. i'm not sure what i've been doing?)

my weekend

we did so much this past weekend! i am totally knackered but it was so much fun. friends came to stay with us (actually the couple who got married the weekend before) and we enjoyed showing them vienna in the summer (even though it was mega hot and we all nearly melted).

one of the highlights for me was seeing rufus wainwright perform at the vienna state opera (wiener staatsoper) on friday night. he really was AMAZING (but i'm still rather distraught that i forgot my camera and so sadly i have no pictures of inside the opera house).

we ate A LOT. and bad stuff. but goood. the mohn (poppy seed) and haselnuss (hazelnut) ice cream from eis greissler is my absolute favourite (i also posted about the ice cream shop back last year).

i'm eating salads salads salads for the rest of the week!

my weekend

wow. i really had the best weekend. its been hot hot hot in vienna (too hot for my liking!) but really fantastic. highlights included:
a fun night out with work colleagues and seeing england beat sweden (sorry mimie!)

a beautiful day in the hills with lovely wine and food (as a reward for all our walking)
discovering a forbidden pathway
watching lots and lots of football (i haven't missed a match in the euro 2012 yet!)
a sunday visit to a flea market (no purchases though. i'm always too shy to ask how much things are)
reading and relaxing in the park
delicious beer battered fish and chunky chips at o'connors (seriously good)

food lately

a fantastic meal at stomach
yummy blood sausage on bread with horseradish at the genussfestival (which we visited again this year for a the third time in a row!)
another dish we had already nearly demolished at the genussfestival
one of my favourites. simple boiled eggs with toast soldiers
a really great lunch at neni (at the naschmarkt)
a traditional berner würstel mit pommes in melk
a caprese salad with pesto for lunch
really delicious homemade mushroom and asparagus risotto (a recipe from this new cook book)
AMAZING homemade aruncini (made from the risotto leftovers). first attempt at ever making them and they were soooo good (recipe from the same new book!)
a tasty bacon sandwich in bed

the vienna hills

i love it up here. its so close to the city but you feel surrounded by green and hills.

my family were visiting last weekend and we spent a wonderful afternoon walking and then sitting drinking wine at a heuriger called mayer am nussberg (i also posted about this heuriger before). it was soooo relaxing!
