genuss festival

wow, we've had the most amazing day! there is a food and drink festival called 'genuss festival' in stadtpark (a city park) this weekend (we luckily stumbled across it yesterday and so decided that we'd go and check it out properly today). stalls from all different regions around austria full of loads of amazing produce... meats and cheeses galore! my heaven! (oh, and did i mention all the wine?!).
it was so lovely! we wandered around all the stalls drinking wine (we sampled quite a few different ones!) and sat and relaxed on the grass watching the people go by.
kev ate this amazing potato thing for lunch toped with a fried egg (i wish i'd written down what it was called) but it was from the tirol region.
and i ate cheese on toast austrian styley (well, kev actually ate that too!). he didn't want to miss out because it looked and smelt SO good.
and there was this bizarre tower of flowers with little sausages and bread swirls on it....
no idea what that is about?!
we bought some lovely sausage (including blood sausage), some very stinky but tasty cheese (which is currently stinking out the fridge!), some bread and some pear cider. so guess what we've got for dinner tonight?!

  1. I know I'm a year late to comment on this post but I just stubled over your blog (very nice place btw) and thought I'd mention that the potato thing you had there is called "Tiroler Gröstl". Very simple traditional dish normally made from leftovers of the previous day but delicious nonetheless. Keep up the nice work with your blog!
