i'm a little embarrassed to say that after living in vienna for 15 months, sunday was our first visit to the donau (danube). it was so lovely just being by the water... i think we will be making many more visits this summer with our books and a picnic.
we took the u bahn to the donauinsel and then walked and walked and walked! there were people cycling, roller blading, sunbathing, wind surfing, swimming, playing football.... it was great for people watching.
(not sure how you're meant to get in the toilets. are you meant to bring your own ladder?!).
(and also, no idea what happened on the cloud shot. it was the day but looks like night?!)

saturday in the city
this weekend was so great, i didn't want it to end! kev and i spent the whole weekend just the 2 of us and it was lovely. on saturday the weather was glorious and so we went for a big long walk in the sunshine. we ended up wandering around naschmarkt, stopping for some beers, eating a delicious kebab and then walking all the way home. in the evening we watched england play terribly against switzerland in the football euro qualifiers. we made yummy drinks with hendricks gin, elderflower syrup, soda, lemon and mint (REALLY good. i got the idea here) and we later watched an oldie film all the president's men (we enjoyed it very much).
by the way, we watched black swan on friday night. WHOA. what a film! really freaky but totally amazing.

a lesson in photography
on tuesday late afternoon/evening kev and i attended a photography course run by a colleague of kev's. we did a bit of theory first (and i got totally confused!) and then we went over to stadtpark to take some photographs and try out a few new things.
now i openly admit i have no idea how to use my camera properly and i am ashamed to say i still use the auto settings.... so this was a good opportunity to learn! (this was actually one of my new years resolutions. not sure where the past 5 months have gone?!). anyway... i was pretty terrible! we tried taking photos in different light, action photos and some portraits using different manual settings, changing the shutter speed, etc. we learnt a few new techniques and tips. all my photos were a disaster but here are a few to show that i did actually take some.
this last one of kev makes me laugh!
i thoroughly enjoyed the course and it has certainly motivated me to read the camera manual for a start!

english wedding
this past weekend kev and i flew back to england to attend our friends, kate and grants wedding. it was a beautiful wedding and so much fun! here are a few details from the day.
on friday before our flight in the afternoon i went to have my hair cut (it was getting a little out of control again after not being cut for 4 months). but the hairdresser got scissor happy and now i have too many short layers at the back. she also blow dried it in a massive bouffant with the bottom flicking out. i looked hideous. i left the shop frantically pulling my hair to make it go flatter! i now need it to grow. quickly.
it was a typical english spring day. cold, grey and windy! but that didn't stop everyone having a wonderful time.
the reception was at a golf spa hotel. this was the view from our hotel room balcony.on friday before our flight in the afternoon i went to have my hair cut (it was getting a little out of control again after not being cut for 4 months). but the hairdresser got scissor happy and now i have too many short layers at the back. she also blow dried it in a massive bouffant with the bottom flicking out. i looked hideous. i left the shop frantically pulling my hair to make it go flatter! i now need it to grow. quickly.
